Slow and steady

This childhood fable gets a modern upgrade as Mercedes-Benz reimagines this classic story; this time with carbon fibre and a Mercedes-AMG GT S.

Once upon a time, slow and steady won the race. In this Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl commercial, slow and steady simply gets smarter, and considerably faster.

Airing in 2015, the brand’s playful retelling of The Tortoise and the Hare switches up moral lessons for mechanical muscle, setting the scene in an enchanted forest where the rules of racing are about to change.

The hare, brimming with self-belief and overconfidence, celebrates a little too early. Meanwhile the tortoise, taking things slow and steady, ambles along an unlikely discovery: a Mercedes-AMG factory. What follows is less fairy tale and more performance fantasy as the tortoise gets behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT S, a dream drive packing 503 horsepower.

The result is inevitable, proving that strategy, timing and a little German engineering go a long way. beyond the storytelling, the advert works because it trusts the audience to recognise the fable and the flex. The Mercedes-AMG GT S isn’t introduced as a hard sell; it simply arrives, does what it was built to do and leaves the overconfident hare to eat dust.

In less than a minute, this commercial delivers a message that feels light-hearted but direct: speed matters, but confidence without strategy is simply noise.
