The Warehouses in Currumbin sets a new standard for industrial spaces—combining sustainability, community, and stunning architecture to create the ultimate work environment.
Tucked away in Currumbin’s bustling industrial zone, The Warehouses isn’t your typical concrete and steel business hub. Instead, it’s vibrant, green and full of life—a place where creativity can thrive alongside commercial success.
The project, led by a family of passionate and lifelong Currumbin locals, brings a refreshing twist to what an industrial precinct can be.
“When we saw this building, we knew we could save and enhance some of the original architectural features, while also giving it a makeover,” says co-owner Renée Honey, who along with her brother Luke and their mum, brought the project to life.
We’ve created generous spill-out areas, lush greenery and little nooks where inspiration can strike. What we’ve done is demonstrate how industrial workspaces can be extraordinarily stunning.
“Having worked in industrial environments, we wanted to set a new benchmark, showing that these spaces can be both beautiful in design and building materials, and supportive of those who work within them.”
And that’s exactly what they did.
Each of the 14 purpose-built tenancies has been meticulously crafted to elevate the brands that occupy them.
Repurposed foundations and heritage features like exposed trusses and clerestory windows are combined with contemporary styling and design.
“Our design process is all about evolution,” she says.
The communal areas—a series of garden-filled arcades and sun-drenched atriums—are designed to encourage collaboration, conversation and a sense of community.
“The Warehouses is more than just a place to get things done,” says Renée.
“We’ve created generous spill-out areas, lush greenery and little nooks where inspiration can strike. What we’ve done is demonstrate how industrial workspaces can be extraordinarily stunning.”
The Warehouses green credentials are just as impressive as their design. From a 100kW solar system to Tesla batteries and water retention tanks, the precinct is engineered to leave a light footprint.
“We’ve ensured the building is as self-sustainable as possible,” she says.
“Conscious of our footprint and the fact that nature stimulates creativity, we’ve incorporated greenery into every element.”
“From exterior landscaping to inside the common areas, we’ve gone to great lengths to accentuate the natural elements.”
For Renée and her family, it was essential to create a space that honoured Currumbin’s unique vibe.
“Currumbin is this amazing mixture of old-school industry and new-age innovation,” she says.
From exterior landscaping to inside the common areas, we’ve gone to great lengths to accentuate the natural elements.
“You’ve got businesses like Balter Brewery setting up here and boutique brands popping up—it’s a place where culture meets creativity, and we wanted The Warehouses to be part of that energy.”
The Warehouses has already earned significant recognition, winning Queensland’s Commercial Architecture Award and receiving nominations for several national accolades.
And with a steadily growing community of tenants, including established businesses that contribute to the building’s legacy, The Warehouses is proving industrial spaces can be both functional and beautiful.
