Screen legend Peter Fonda unleashes unbridled power in a Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster, confronts a rough-and-tumble biker gang and radiates good-humoured rebellion in this Mercedes-Benz advert from 2017.

 In the spirit of nostalgia, this 2017 Super Bowl commercial saw Mercedes-Benz roar onto the scene with a captivating combination.

Mercedes-Benz teamed up with heavyweight Oscar-winning directors, Joel and Ethan Coen, known for cinematic gems such as Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), and No Country for Old Men (2007) and alongside them, the incomparable American actor Peter Fonda added his star power to the equation.

Shining a spotlight on the Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster, the fun and electrifying campaign used just the right formula.

The epic video whisks us to a raucous bar nestled on the legendary U.S. Route 66. Here, the unmistakable strains of Steppenwolf’s Born to Be Wild set the scene, the lone anthem on the jukebox.

However, the scene is interrupted when someone bursts inside, announcing they have been ‘blocked in’.

Furious and determined, the leather-clad crew spills out of the bar, ready to confront the audacious blocker.

But the tides of anger quickly recede when they find the unexpected culprit – silver screen legend Peter Fonda himself, who’s wearing the same American flag jacket he wore in his film Easy Rider (1969) and has nonchalantly parked a brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster in their path.

Not bothered by the bunch of riled-up bikers in the least, Fonda strides confidently towards the iconic roadster and simply says, ‘nice rides’ to the bikes.

He slips into the driver’s seat, starts the engine, reigniting Born to be Wild and then proceeds to speed off down a winding desert road. As the video wraps up, Fonda drives away, flashing a peace sign to the audience and adding an effortless element of rebellion to the scene.
