The seasoned team behind Margarita Cartel, part of the North Burleigh dining precinct, have brought their South American heritage and industry know-how to establish a restaurant reminiscent of the many that dot the coastal towns of Baja California and Mexico.
Established just on two years ago, its light and bright interior is a precursor to what’s available from the kitchen, with a range of pequenos (Spanish for little) perfect for sharing, through to staples such as nachos, quesadilla, burrito and tacos.
The menu has been specifically designed to perfectly compliment the Gold Coast lifestyle, with an extensive range of margaritas to boot.
Nestled on the lower Gold Coast Highway, and next door to its sister restaurant The Don, the neon Calavera skull is the guiding beacon to let you know you’ve arrived, and with ample seating along the retail strip at night, you’ll feel the festive mood immediately.
The range of tasty starters includes Chuzo, delicious prawn and chorizo skewers with cilantro salsa, the amazing loaded Agave sticky pork fries, Mexican corn ribs with cheese, sour cream and Pico de Gallo (fresh tomato, coriander and red onion), and the ever-popular jalapeno poppers.
If you’re not in a sharing mood then you can choose from a range of classic Mexican fare and pair them with some sides such as fresh guacamole, sliced jalapenos or the spicy Cartel sauce.
With 15 types of Margaritas on offer and a fully stocked tequila bar, you’ll soon think you’re in Baja Burleigh rather than California.
The team source local for as much of their ingredients as possible, including the wraps for the quesadillas and burritos from fellow Burleigh business, Diego’s, whose products are as close to as you’d find in Mexico.
Margarita Cartel is open Thursday to Sunday from 5pm at Shop2/1840 Gold Coast Hwy, Burleigh Heads.
